If you record video and an extra audio track, this is how to easily sync and merge audio to video in Premiere Pro.
This is perfect if you film using your phone or camera and then record audio on a microphone. This is a great idea if you want the best quality of both audio and video! And if you edit using Premiere Pro, it is so simple to sync both.
This hack also works if you edit your audio separately and then want to sync it back with your video.
The steps:
Import your video and audio files to your project in Premiere Pro.
Select the two files. You can do this by dragging across both or using ctrl/cmd and left click on the two.
Right click on any of those two files.
Select 'Merge Clips...'
Then select these settings:
Name: Add your title
Synchronize Point: 'Audio'. (This will merge the two videos based on the audio file. But if you know the videos start or end at the same point you can use the 'In Points' or 'Out Points'.)
Use Audio Timecode From Clip: I leave this unchecked. But check this if you have editing your audio and it has timecodes.
Remove Audio From AV Clip: Keep this unchecked if you want to keep the two layers of sound - from your video and audio. Or press it if you would like to delete the audio from the video. This will leave only the video and the one audio file from your separate file.
Press 'Ok'. It may take a few seconds or longer depending on the file sizes.
It then outputs the new video into your project media!
Your videos are already in the timeline?
The same steps also work! You can also just select the video and audio in the timeline, right-click and select 'Synchronize'.
And there you go! You now have a video with audio and video synced, and you can drag it into your sequence as normal.
